Roadsmith Trikes knows you are anxious to get your new trike conversion back and hit the road. One of the most common questions we get is, “How long does it take to trike my bike?” or “How long will the conversion process take?” Here’s a peek into the process of converting your bike and the probable timeframe.
What Is Happening to My Bike?
We know you love your Honda, Victory, Indian, or Harley-Davidson motorbike and are worried about it. Here’s just some of the modifications your conversion will include:
Independent Rear Suspension
Over thirty years ago, we pioneered the introduction of Independent Rear Suspension for motorcycle trike conversions. This innovative suspension system, similar to that found in passenger vehicles, provides a smoother ride. Our multi-point chassis mount not only dissipates stress but also enhances the overall strength of the trike frame. Additionally, our Porsche-inspired trailing arm suspension features a minimal number of moving parts, resulting in reduced maintenance and fewer adjustments over time.
True Trak Stabilizer Bar
The Roadsmith Stabilizer Bar, or sway bar, serves as a flexible link between the two trailing arms of your trike. This technology is widely used in today’s vehicles, designed to absorb the impact when one rear wheel encounters a bump, helping maintain ride stability. In contrast, some trike manufacturers rely on outdated solid axle systems, such as Harley-Davidson’s Tri-Glide “no lean” suspension, which is often associated with a rougher ride. Furthermore, some use shock mounts positioned more horizontally, leading to additional side-to-side bouncing.
AccuRide
AccuRide, available on all models, is a groundbreaking automatic leveling system specific to the trike conversion industry. This system automatically detects and adjusts the supplemental rear air shocks to maintain an optimal ride height, ensuring comfort during your journey. In contrast, manually adjustable air shocks or bags can lead to incorrect wheel camber and premature tire wear.
Reverse Gear
Our industry-leading reverse system makes maneuvering your belt-driven trike easy. Utilizing a powerful yet quiet electric motor, the system engages a durable urethane/aluminum core gear into the rear sprocket when the lever is lifted. Simply push the button on your left thumb (horn on HD models) to reverse safely and smoothly.
Heavy Duty CV Joints
To ensure that your planned trips proceed without issues, we manufacture our trike axles with the same CV joints used by Volkswagen and Porsche. By utilizing off-the-shelf parts designed to handle heavier loads, we guarantee exceptional durability and convenience for any future repairs.
Stronger Drive Systems
Our trikes are engineered for safety and performance on the road. Unlike some trike conversion manufacturers, which use a multi-belt drive system that passes through a jackshaft—often leading to power loss and maintenance challenges—we provide a more efficient solution.
Our belt-driven models utilize longer, stronger belts, while our shaft-driven models feature a completely redesigned driveshaft created from full-size sealed automotive u-joints and a robust 2” diameter tube. These components are standard in full-sized cars and small trucks, ensuring extended durability for your lightweight trike and easy access to replacement parts if needed.
All That and More So Fast?
Manufacturing lead times can vary based on the specifics of each order, as each kit is customized according to your selected options. Typically, if you order a kit for your bike, the build time will be approximately 3 to 6 weeks. Additionally, your local authorized dealer will require around 2 to 4 days to have your bike ready.
