March Trike of the Month

Congratulations Chris Owens!

March’s Trike of the Month goes to a very worthy candidate by the name of Chris Owens, but many just call him “Preacher” for short. Chris is a true southern gentleman hailing from a small Texas town just south of Houston, and he is the proud new owner of a VERY customized Roadsmith HDTR Trike. Chris had his 2009 purple Ultra Classic converted by Roland Hutton at City Line Cycles, who didn’t miss a single detail ensuring it went above and beyond Chris’s expectations. The result as you can see is nothing short of show stopping.

Chris started out life on two wheels with a motor before he even threw a leg over two wheels with pedals, he proudly proclaims. His father was very involved in all things motorcycles, so like a mosquito in a Minnesota summer it just couldn’t leave him alone, and the open road has been “biting” at him ever since. Chris took some time away from motorcycles in his early adult years to raise his four kids, two natural and two adopted, with his wife, but just like a Minnesota summer it came back to him after a long hard “winter” away. So in 2009 he was ready to begin the lifestyle again, and he set sights set on a cherry red Harley, which he wanted more than anything. But as divine intervention would have it, he was guided to a brand new purple Ultra-Classic on the showfloor that he just couldn’t pass up. “The purple color is very fitting for a guy named “Preacher” since he’s part of the royal family” said Roland of City Line Cycles.

After riding it for a few years, Chris knew it was time to convert to trike due to some leg injuries he sustained as a child catching up to him with a the heavy bike. Years of research later he opted with a Roadsmith because of the “time tested independent suspension and longer wheelbase.”

Roland and the team at City Line Cycles poured every ounce of custom ideas into the build to ensure a truly one of a kind Roadsmith trike; all the way down to the 23” gold anodized front rim and gold rear rims, to the removable tour pack, to a bunch of engine upgrades, and a honey marine alligator seat. The “purple royalty” trike had to have the gold wheels so it would be like Chris was riding on the streets of gold, flying through Texas with his smile in the breeze, mile after mile.

Chris doesn’t have any big rally plans this year, but you can definitely find him in North Texas hill country with his wife (of 30 years) reading a Kindle in the passenger seat (it’s that comfortable for her he says) and him with a grin the size of Texas on his face. Leading a pretty hectic life and a high-stress job as a large factory planner, Chris partakes in his moto-therapy as much as possible, as we can all relate to. As he says, “When I’ve gone through a stressful time, I just have to get on my trike and just ride…it refreshes ya, you know?” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Congratulations to Chris on his beautiful Trike of the Month!
